Sylvia Kithinji is a Partner and the Head of the Corporate Commercial Practice Group at G&A Advocates. Sylvia is a specialist in corporate, project and sovereign finance including equity, joint ventures, debt, M&A transactions, capital markets including debt issuances and restructuring.
Sylvia brings a wealth of expertise and a proven track record of successfully advising a broad range of clients including private equity and venture capital funds, multilateral and development institutions, government entities, and multinational corporations.
Expertise
Throughout her career, Sylvia has been instrumental in orchestrating a myriad of transformative deals and projects, leveraging on her ability to cultivate strong local and international partnerships to drive investment opportunities and economic growth in Kenya and Africa. Her notable achievements include:
- Acted for the Government of Kenya in the structuring and execution of a US$2 billion Eurobond restructuring and international sovereign bond issuance of US$1.5 billion by the Government of Kenya, playing a pivotal role in securing vital financing for Kenya’s economic revitalization initiatives.
- Advising International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the National Treasury on the structuring of a retail bond and blockchain-backed pension scheme for the informal sector in Kenya.
- Acting for GridX, a Mauritius-based energy fund on its investment in Kenya Tea Development Agency Power Company (KTPC), with the option of subsequent financing structured to support the development of renewable power generation assets for KTPC and its regional power companies.
- Advised the Government of Somaliland on the design, finance, build, and operation of its Berbera Oil Terminal through a public-private partnership.
- Advised Everstrong Capital on the development of a privately initiated investment proposal for the construction of the Nairobi- Mombasa Expressway to be executed through a public-private partnership structure.
Sylvia sits on the Nairobi International Finance Centre (NIFC) Tribunal, a dispute resolution body that supports Kenya through the NIFC to develop an efficient and globally competitive financial services sector.
Sylvia also serves as the Board Chairperson of Jia Technologies in Kenya, a US fintech company with operations in Africa and Asia seeking to unlock global capital for small and medium-sized businesses.

Beyond her illustrious legal career, Sylvia enjoys nurturing close relationships with family and friends and enjoys maintaining an active life style through fitness activities.
